The Seattle Mariners have enjoyed having Brendan Donovan on their roster so far this season.

But right now, Donovan is dealing with an injury, and it’s not clear how it might impact him going forward.

Donovan exited Friday’s game after an odd play.

Running to first base, Donovan noticed that it was going to be a close play, and his strides weren’t timed up perfectly.

So on his last stride, he extended extra far, and when his foot hit the bag, his leg appeared to tweak at a slightly odd angle.

It wasn’t immediately clear what had happened, but Donovan left the game, and Leo Rivas came in at third base.

After the game, the words used by the Mariners were that Donovan had “discomfort somewhere in his leg.”

The Mariners would certainly like to get Donovan back sooner rather than later.

Interestingly, a Donovan injury would have a fascinating consequence — it would likely result in a promotion for phenom Colt Emerson for his MLB debut.

Emerson is probably coming soon anyway. Will Donovan’s ailment accelerate that? Seattle fans might find out soon.
