Third baseman Brendan Donovan is not in the Seattle Mariners’ lineup on Saturday a day after he exited a game early with discomfort in his leg.
Seattle Mariners prospect Kade Anderson delivers stellar pro debut
Donovan was pulled from Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels for a defensive replacement Leo Rivas in the bottom of the seventh inning, which came after Donovan landed on first base awkwardly trying to beat out a grounder in the top half of the inning.
Manager Dan Wilson told reporters after Friday’s game “somewhere” in Donovan’s leg didn’t feel great after the play and he would be reevaluated at the ballpark Saturday.
With Donovan out of the lineup, Leo Rivas is getting the start at third base and hitting ninth. Right fielder Luke Raley moved up to Donovan’s usual spot in the leadoff spot against a right-handed starter.
The 29-year-old Donovan has been off to an impressive start at the plate through his first eight games with the Mariners. He’s hitting .370 (10 for 27) with two homers and two doubles, including becoming the first player in franchise history to hit a leadoff home run on opening day.
Below is a look at what the rest of the Mariners’ lineup looks like as right-hander Emerson Hancock takes the mound against Angels right-hander Jack Kochanowicz.
