ZT breaks down his top player props to consider for Sunday Night Baseball’s matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers.
In one of several fun interleague matchups this weekend, the St. Louis Cardinals are in the Motor City to face the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers have taken the first two games of the series and will look to close out the sweep with a win on Sunday Night Baseball. The hometown Tigers are favored at -143 on Sunday Night Baseball with the over/under at eight runs. One way to get a piece of the action in this 7:20 p.m. ET primetime matchup is by finding a few player prop bets that are strong plays in the contest.
For each Major League Baseball matchup, DraftKings Sportsbook has a wide variety of batter and pitcher props on the board. Let’s take a look at my top three best bets for this Sunday Night Baseball contest on Peacock.
Cardinals at Tigers Prop Bets for 4/5/26
Kyle Leahy o2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (+109)
Leahy has worked out of the bullpen for the Cardinals for the last several seasons but transitioned to a starting role this spring training. He came out of the bullpen for 61 of his 62 games last year, compiling a 3.07 ERA and 3.04 FIP. He held righties to a .238 average and .257 wOBA, but lefties posted a .252 average and .310 wOBA against him. The Tigers’ lineup is full of strong lefties who will be on the strong side of this split against Leahy.
In his first start of the year, Leahy gave up four earned runs on eight hits in five innings to the Mets, taking the loss and allowing a 52.4% hard-hit rate against him. The Cardinals got short starts from Michael McGreevy (4 2/3 IP, 3 ER) and Dustin May (3 1/3 IP, 7 ER) in the first two games of the series, so they’ll likely let Leahy work as deep as possible into the game, and the Tigers have a good chance of getting at least three runs against Leahy before he’s lifted.
JJ Wetherholt 3+ Hits + Runs + RBI (+192)
Wetherholt has hit leadoff in each of his seven starts. He produced 19 HRR (hits, runs and RBI) in those seven games for an average of 2.7 HRR per start. Wetherholt went 1-for-2 with two walks, a hit-by-pitch, a stolen base and a run scored. He only had two HRR in that game, but he went over this prop line in four of his previous six starts.
Keider Montero, who starts for the Tigers, has struggled with lefties in his career, allowing a .282 average and .384 wOBA on that side of the splits.
Since he’ll likely be back in the leadoff spot with a good chance to be involved in any run production, Wetherholt brings extreme value at almost 2:1 for just 3 HRR. The 23-year-old lefty was one of three young power hitters that I highlighted in my home run props for Sunday night.
Kevin McGonigle 2+ Total Bases (+131)
While Wetherholt is one of the most exciting young prospects in baseball, the Tigers have their own exciting young middle infielder in Kevin McGonigle. This could be a series we look back at as a matchup of Rookies of the Year, depending on how the rest of the season plays out.
McGonigle has 15 total bases in his eight games this season and went over this prop in two of his last three games. He hit leadoff on Friday and hit second on Saturday. He’ll hit second again on Sunday and near the top of the lineup, he will get enough at-bats to get opportunities to deliver at least two total bases in this favorable matchup against Leahy and the Cardinals.
Bonus Same Game Parlay Play: Riley Greene 1+ Hits (-185)
If you’re building a Same-Game Parlay (SGP) for Sunday Night Baseball, you can add in Greene getting a hit to boost the odds of the four Cardinals-Tigers props in this post up to +1500.
Greene is hitting .226 (7-for-31) on the season, and he had hit safely in four straight games before going 0-for-2 with a pair of walks on Saturday. He’ll look to get back in the hit column on Sunday and will be on the strong side of the splits against Leahy.
