The Philadelphia Phillies have some of the best odds to win the World Series this year of any team in all of Major League Baseball.

Their lineup, starting rotation, and bullpen are among the best in baseball, and there has been plenty of success in recent years as well. Even though the start hasn’t been perfect, they’re 5-4 and are a clear top contender this season.

David Schoenfield of ESPN shared a fun metric that does more than agree with the Phillies status as contenders; it has the Phillies scoring as the best team in all of Major League Baseball when it comes to ESPN’s “Watchability Index.”

Phillies are MLB’s best watch this season

The Phillies placed first in all of MLB, scoring a 33 out of 40, beating the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers, who scored a 30 out of 40.

“The Phillies were No. 3 a year ago, so this isn’t necessarily a surprise,” Schoenfield writes, “but they have a few key factors that improved their ranking.”

Why did the Phillies jump up despite “running it back” this season? Kyle Schwarber had an MVP-caliber year in 2025, making him more of a superstar than ever before.

Cristopher Sanchez also turned into a Cy Young candidate who could become one of the best players in all of MLB with another strong season.

The Phillies’ “Star power” rating out of 15 was a very strong grade of 14, and it’s thanks to Schwarber, Sanchez, Bryce Harper, and their litany of other stars.

When it comes to their “Young talent” rating out of 10 points, the Phillies scored an “8.” Andrew Painter looked great in his MLB debut, and Justin Crawford has looked the part of a full-time center fielder with his great speed, amazing contact ability, and decent defense.

The Phillies also received a “Baseball stuff” grade of an 8-out-of-10, which measures simply what they can provide with their on-field performance.

Schoenfield also gave the Phillies a three out of five point grade in the “Bonus” category for the following reasons: “+1 for the best set of uniforms in baseball, +1 for ballpark atmosphere, +0.5 for Trea Turner’s speed, +0.5 for the Phillie Phanatic.”

Overall, the Phillies placed first in ESPN’s “Watchability Index.” They beat the Dodgers, New York Mets, and every other team in baseball with the highest score by a wide margin, with a 33/40, compared to the runner-up Dodgers with a 30/40.

It’s a good time to be a Phillies fan, as there’s no other team in Major League Baseball, according to this “Watchability Index,” that is better to watch than the Phillies.
