The first game in the series went in Minnesota’s favor with a 7-3 victory in front of a home crowd. The Tigers used Casey Mize in the start and he was credited with the loss after pitching for 4.1 innings and giving up five earned runs while striking out four batters. Detroit trailed 3-0 before Colt Keith hit an RBI double in the top of the fourth to make it a 3-1 game. Zach McKinstry followed with a two-run single to tie things up, but that’s where the Tigers’ scoring stalled.

Minnesota was led offensively by catcher Victor Caratini who went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Caratini opened the scoring with a sac fly in the bottom of the third and followed with a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to close out the scoring for the Twins. Joe Ryan got the start on the mound and, subsequently, the win after going five innings with seven strikeouts.

Left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal will take the mound on Tuesday night for the Tigers. Skubal is 1-1 on the season with an ERA of 0.69 and nine strikeouts so far. The Twins will counter with right-handed Taj Bradley who is 1-0 with an ERA of 0.87 and 12 strikeouts. Tune in Tuesday night to see if the Tigers can bounce back and tie the series up.
