  • April 8, 2026

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WHSV) — James Madison scored on a wild pitch in the 10th inning and held on to beat No. 13 Virginia 8-7 on Tuesday night for their first win against the Cavaliers since 2007.

Clay Thompson and Reece Moody each had three hits for JMU (16-15). Moody added two RBI and three stolen bases.

Virginia (24-10) led 4-0 after Noah Murray’s three-run homer in the fourth, but the Dukes rallied with three runs in the fifth without a hit and took a 7-4 lead in the seventh.

Joe Tiroly tied it with a ninth-inning two-run home run before JMU loaded the bases in the 10th and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Griffin Madden closed it out for his first save. Luke McGrath (2-1) earned the win.
