Thomas Saggese delivered the go-ahead double in the 10th inning as the St. Louis Cardinals rallied for a 7-6 win over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.

Saggese opened the inning with a double to center, scoring the automatic runner, and JJ Wetherholt followed with an RBI double to extend the lead.

St. Louis erased a late deficit with two home runs. Jordan Walker hit a solo shot in the seventh to pull the Cardinals within two, and Nathan Church tied the game in the eighth with a two-run homer.

The Cardinals took advantage of Washington’s bullpen, scoring five runs late after the Nationals entered the game with one of the highest bullpen ERAs in the league.

James Wood homered for the third straight game for Washington, while Curtis Mead also contributed a home run and two RBIs.

George Soriano earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief. Riley O’Brien picked up the save despite allowing a run in the 10th.

Matthew Liberatore started for St. Louis and allowed four runs over five innings, while Washington starter Cade Cavalli gave up two runs in 4 2/3 innings.

The Cardinals and Nationals will wrap up the series Wednesday.
