The Chicago White Sox have been struggling this season, and it appears they are ready to make a change on the roster. With the team leading all of Major League Baseball in reliever innings, pitchers are beginning to get burned out. There is a report saying the team is adding another pitcher to the White Sox’s bullpen. Let’s take a closer look at who it is and what it means for the team going forward.

Elijah Evans of Just Baseball is reporting that the White Sox are officially calling up left-handed pitcher Tyler Schweitzer ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. At the time of writing, it is unknown what the corresponding roster move will be. It is important to note that the team did transfer Mike Vasil to the 60-day Injured List, so there is a spot open in the 26-man roster, so there does not need to be a move at all. Schweitzer has proven to be a multiple-inning reliever this season. In two games for Triple-A Charlotte, he has pitched five innings and allowed one run. His control has been excellent with zero walks and four strikeouts. However, he has a .294 opposing batting average thus far.

According to MLB Pipeline, Schweitzer is considered to be the 23rd-ranked prospect in the White Sox organization. The 2022 fifth-round pick out of Ball State has a four-pitch arsenal (fastball, curveball, slider, changeup). Chicago has three left-handed relievers in Bryan Hudson, Chris Murphy, and Sean Newcomb, so there are a lot of southpaw pitchers. It will be interesting to see how Schweitzer looks at the big league level.
