The Mets announced a pair of roster moves before their series opener against the Colorado Rockies on Friday night, optioning left-handed pitcher Brandon Waddell to Triple-A Syracuse while recalling right-handed pitcher Chris Devenski in his place.

Waddell relieved starter Griffin Canning in the team’s 9-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday afternoon. The Mets got just about they possibly could’ve out of the 30-year-old in that outing, as he threw 94 pitches over five innings while allowing four earned runs. His only other appearance in the majors this season came against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 30, during which he gave up three hits and struck out four batters across 4 1/3 scoreless frames.

Following stints in the big leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals between the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Waddell played for the KBO’s Doosan Bears (2022, 2023-24) and CPBL’s Rakuten Monkeys (2023) before agreeing to a minor league deal with the Mets this past offseason. He currently owns a 3.06 ERA in eight appearances for Syracuse this year.

Devenski, an All-Star and World Series champion in 2017 while with the Houston Astros, allowed two earned runs over two innings in his only outing for the Mets this season against Arizona on April 30. He’s also previously appeared in the majors for the Diamondbacks (2021-22), Philadelphia Phillies (2022), Los Angeles Angels (2023) and Tampa Bay Rays (2023-24).

In 17 outings for Syracuse, Devenski’s logged a 1.96 ERA in 18 1/3 innings.
