The Rockwall Yellowjackets have been on fire since the start of district play with an undefeated 6-0 record. The team continued their undefeated streak with a 3-0 shutout against the Tyler Legacy Red Raiders on Tuesday.
The star of the show from start to finish was pitcher Hudson Holt. Right from the jump Holt was in control on the mound and only allowed two hits while striking out seven.
Head coach Loren McCrilis gave Holt his flowers after the performance.
“I think he was spot on all night,” McCrilis said. “There were no hiccups in his pitch selection. Huddy executed every one of them.”
McCrilis also credited Holt’s preparation before games as to why he’s able to have successful outings such as this one.
While the game wasn’t a slobber-knocker offensively, the Yellowjackets offense picked up key situational hits to seal the win.
The ball was flying off the bats in the first inning when Jake Ursey lead things off with a double to center field.
Later in the inning Ursey advanced to third on a wild pitch and Dylan Cheek punched him in with an RBI single to give Rockwall a 1-0 lead.
Brent Celis followed that up with a single to right field with Cheek moving from first to third. Cheek then took advantage of wild pitch in the inning to steal home for the team’s second run.
After that the bats went quiet but Holt continued to hold things down on the mound and keep Rockwall in control.
The Yellowjackets final run came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Brock Shouse singled and A.J. Newby doubled on a line drive to left field to put runners at second and third.
Another wild pitch scored Shouse from third to give Rockwall their final run of the game.
“It’s wonderful, these are all things we go through in practice. We see it everyday, you guys see it when we play games. The hard work that every one of the players puts in, most people don’t understand it,” McCrilis said.
With this victory, the Yellowjackets improved their District 10-6A mark to a perfect 7-0 and have a firm hold over the rest of the league with just under a month left in the regular season.
The Yellowjackets conclude their two game series against the Red Raiders on the road Friday at 4:30 p.m.
