The Philadelphia Phillies decided to run it back this season, and it might not be the worst idea with how good the roster is. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t problems.
One of the biggest issues for the Phillies right now is hitting left-handed pitching, as they’re one of the worst teams in the league. But it’s not just against lefties that the Phillies are seeing problems in the lineup.
As John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia shared, Bryson Stott is proving to be a bit of a problem for the Phillies early this season. His 0-for-11 skid and .182 batting average are major problems that the Phillies need to resolve ASAP.
Phillies have big Bryson Stott problem
“Bryson Stott is now batting .182 to start the season,” Clark posted. “He struck out with two runners on base. He is 0 for his last 11. Batting out of the fifth spot, he is hitting just .219 in his career, but he hits over .300 in his career out of the six hole.”
The Phillies are not getting nearly enough out of Stott, as seen with his brutal .182 batting average this season through 33 at-bats.
Stott has just six hits, one run scored, one double, and two RBIs with a .454 OPS. As a player who isn’t a power-hitter, he needs to be getting on base more often.

Presently, he’s not doing that and will likely need to be moved down the lineup. Clark, referring to Stott hitting better out of the sixth spot in the lineup, is too simple a fix for it to actually work.
But, regardless of how it shakes out, Stott cannot stay in the fifth spot with his struggles this season. Rob Thomson needs to make a change and move Stott down the lineup.
Moving Garcia up a bit wouldn’t be a bad idea, and, at least against right-handed pitching for now, moving Brandon Marsh up a bit might not be the worst idea either.
The Phillies have a Stott problem amid his tough .182 batting average start to 2026. Stott needs to turn things around, and soon. Otherwise, moving down the batting order might not be the only consequence of his struggles this season.
