The Phillies on Wednesday acquired outfielder Steward Berroa from the Milwaukee Brewers for cash considerations. He was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

To make room for Berroa on the 40-man roster, pitcher Yoniel Curet was designated for assignment.

Berroa, 26, was designated for assignment by the Brewers after starting the season on the injured list with a shoulder strain. He has made 30 career MLB appearances for the Brewers and Blue Jays from 2024-25. He signed as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2016 with Toronto.

Berroa can play all three outfield positions. He battled .167 in 42 at-bats over 30 big league games, including 0-for-5 with a walk last year.

In 77 games in Triple A last season, he hit .246 with two homers, 22 RBIs and 52 runs scored.

Curet, 23, was acquired in a trade with Tampa Bay last December. He had been at Double-A Reading, but last week was reassigned to Clearwater without appearing in a minor league game yet this season. He got beat up in spring, allowing four hits, four walks and eight earned runs in 1.2 innings over three appearances.

The 6-2, 250-pound righty reached Triple A last year with the Rays. He went 1-0 with a .45 ERA in five starts (18.2 innings) at Double A, then struggled with a 6.03 ERA and 1-3 record in eight games (seven starts) and 31.1 innings for Durham in Class AAA.
