The Baltimore Orioles (19-36) couldn’t be more disappointing so far. They’re in last place in the AL East, 6.5 games behind the fourth-place Boston Red Sox (27-31), and fired manager Brandon Hyde on May 17.

2024 All-Stars Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman have each taken a step back, as the former is slashing .254/.318/.435 with seven homers and 15 RBI through 41 games, and the latter is slashing .206/.302/.339 with five homers and 15 RBI in 51 contests. Their best power hitter has been veteran outfielder Cedric Mullins, who sports 10 homers and 31 RBI.
However, the 30-year-old is now injured, via The Baltimore Sun’s Matt Weyrich.

“The Orioles have placed OF Cedric Mullins on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain,” he reported on Friday. “They re-signed UTL Cooper Hummel to replace him on the roster and transferred Cody Poteet to the 60-day.”

Mullins is slashing .232/.324/.448 across 50 games.
Baltimore selected Mullins in the 13th round of the 2015 MLB Draft and called him up in August 2018. The left-hander joined the 30-30 club in 2021, slashing .291/.360/.518 with 30 homers, 59 RBI, and 30 steals in 159 games. He also earned All-Star and Silver Slugger honors that year.
Mullins owns a career slash line of .251/.320/.426 with 96 homers, 309 RBI, and 133 stolen bases in 743 contests.
The Orioles’ outfield depth is compromised. Colton Cowser (thumb) is on the 60-day IL, and Tyler O’Neill (shoulder) is on the 10-day. The team will rely on backups Dylan Carlson and Hummel in the meantime, unless they acquire someone else.
