The New York Yankees and Athletics are finishing off a 3-game series in the Bronx before moving on to a new series starting on Friday night. The Yankees took Game 1 on Tuesday while the A’s took the middle game on Wednesday night. The winner of this contest will take the series. If the A’s win, then it would be their second consecutive series win.
Early in this game, power hitter Brent Rooker left the game after suffering an injury on his swing.

It’s been a slow start for Rooker in 2026, and it may continue to be at that pace for some time as he deals with whatever injury surfaced. So far this season, Rooker is hitting just .150 with two home runs and eight RBIs. The RBIs are a great sign, but his OPS is way lower than normal at just .550. Most of his numbers actually came from one single game when he hit two homers and had six RBIs against the Houston Astros last Sunday. Outside of that game, he’s been bad. Maybe some time off will help the slugger.
The A’s are 4-7 on the season but could be 5-7 before they take on the New York Mets this weekend. They are on an East Coast road trip that will come to an end this weekend before they host the Texas Rangers for a 4-game series. The schedule does not get any easier for the Athletics, but they have the lineup to compete with anyone.
Let’s see if this ballclub can turn into a playoff contender.
