The Chicago Cubs have won back-to-back games and won the series against the Tampa Bay Rays (2-1), outscoring them 19-10.

Traveling back home to Chicago to play a quick three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cubs will be getting one of their best bats from last season back in their lineup.

The Chicago Cubs activate outfielder Seiya Suzuki ahead of their series with the Pittsburgh Pirates

According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, the Cubs activated outfielder Seiya Suzuki to the active roster after he suffered a knee injury playing for Japan in the World Baseball Classic. To make room for Suzuki on the active roster, the Cubs designated outfielder Dylan Carlson for assignment. Carlson had no hits and struck out twice in four at-bats (three games) with the Cubs.

The Cubs also announced that they have placed right-hander Phil Maton on the injured list with right knee tendinitis. To fill in for Maton, the Cubs recalled right-hander Ethan Roberts from Triple-A Iowa. Maton had a 13.50 ERA in five games this season.

Suzuki’s return will add more power to the Cubs’ lineup. The 31-year-old was one of three Cubs — outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong (31) and first baseman Michael Busch (team leader with 34) — with 30+ home runs last season (32).
