Wister inserted a twist in the LeFlore County Baseball Tournament, ending Poteau’s 17-game winning streak while forcing an additional final-round game. Wister and Poteau will play at noon on Saturday in Panama, with the Wildcats seeking their five LCT crown in six years and Poteau (17-3) looking for its first since 2019. The Wildcats (11-11, ranked 10th in Class A-I) took a 5-1 lead in the second inning. Talihina (15-7, ranked seventh in Class A-I) scored three of its four runs in the top of the third after a 50-minute lightning delay. The Golden Tigers tied it on an RBI double by Nakaiah King. In the bottom half of the inning, Wister retook the lead on an RBI single by Preston Perez.
Wister broke out with a four-run fourth inning.
Wister starting pitcher Ethan Billy threw six strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Bruce Burns struck out five in 2.2 relief innings. Cade Branscum and Turner Wooten each had two hits. Poteau’s Easton Turnipseed had a hit, was hit by pitch and had an RBI.
