After sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend the Washington Nationals have a chance to get back to .500 on Monday when they visit the Pittsburgh Pirates.

It was a good weekend for the Washington Nationals (7-8), but they’ll face a real test as they try to keep their winning streak going. The Nats began a seven-game road trip over the weekend visiting the defending National League Central champion Milwaukee Brewers. They came away with a sweep, picking up wins by scores of 7-3, 3-1, and then 8-6 on Sunday. Now though that road trip continues against the current first-place NL Central team – the Pittsburgh Pirates (9-6). Not only that, but the Pirates will be sending their ace and defending National League Cy Young winner Paul Skenes to the mound to start this one.

This will be Skenes’ fourth start of the year, and he’s settled down after getting roughed up in the opener. He lasted just two thirds of an inning in that Opening Day game against the Mets, allowing five earned runs. Since then he’s thrown a combined 11.1 innings over his last two starts against the San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds. In those two starts he’s allowed a total of five hits, four walks, and two runs, while striking out 11 hitters. He earned the win in both games.

The Nationals will counter with righty Cade Cavalli, who has pitched well through his first three starts. He comes into this game with a 2.51 ERA through 14.1 innings, but has yet to pick up a decision on the year.
