The Texas Rangers scored eleven runs while the St. Louis Cardinals scored one run.

Forced into monotony and deprived of entertainment for weeks, the Rangers treated us thirsty followers to a much-desired different kind of baseball game tonight. A blowout win. Double-digit runs. Extra base hits. Home runs. Base hits with runners in scoring position. A veritable smorgasbord of baseball delights. Our devotion rewarded.

Before the 27th Cardinal out was acquired, the Rangers had collected one more run tonight (11) than they had in their last 41 innings prior (10). Texas got those runs thanks to 15 hits after entering the night dead last in baseball in base hits.

All but two batters in the starting lineup had at least one hit and four of the Rangers’ starting nine had multiple hits. Leading the way was Marcus Semien with a whopping four-hit night as he raised his average nearly 20 points.

In addition, Sam Haggerty went 3-for-4 with a walk, a triple, and three RBIs out of the leadoff spot. Josh Jung had a couple of hits and drove in three runs and Wyatt Langford hit a big two-run home run that broke the game open. The Rangers scored a run in the first inning and then four more an inning later to set the game on cruise control.

While the bats coming to life is the big story tonight, the pitching continued to do what it has done all season. Tonight’s starter Jack Leiter had an excellent outing with 5 2⁄3 innings of shutout ball on three hits and a couple of walks to go along with six strikeouts.

Because of the conditions of the blowout, the Rangers were also able to get a three-inning save from Caleb Boushley to preserve a worn down bullpen. All in all, a great night from the whole squad. And, even better, something different!

Player of the Game: There was a lot to love from virtually everyone tonight but Semien broke out in a big way with a 4-for-4 night with his fourth dinger of the year, three runs scored, and three runs driven in.

The Rangers have been waiting all season for Marcus Semien to show up and the All-Star version was on the field tonight.

Up Next: The Rangers and Cardinals go at it again tomorrow afternoon with LHP Patrick Corbin expected to make the start for Texas against RHP Sonny Gray for St. Louis.

The Saturday first pitch from The Shed is scheduled for 3:05 pm CT and will be aired on the Rangers Sports Network.
