Coleman Crow makes his MLB debut as the Milwaukee Brewers begin a three-game series with the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park on April 17.

Follow along for live updates as Crow faces off with former Brewers right-hander Janson Junk (0-2, 4.32) in the pitching matchup.

More small ball

The fourth inning was a reminder that this is Milwaukee Brewers baseball, where hard-hit balls need not apply.

The Brewers scratched out three runs against the Marlins right-handed starter with a litany of junk of their own.

After Gary Sánchez drew a one out walk and Jake Bauers singled to right, Luis Rengifo was brushed by an inside fastball to load the bases. What ensued was quintessential Brewers madness.

Garrett Mitchell, who had struck out with runners on second and third and one out in the second, came out aggressive this time and chopped a slow roller on the turf. Three Marlins converged but a communication lapse allowed Mitchell to beat out the throw home while also giving Milwaukee a 1-0 lead.

Greg Jones followed with a grounder right at shortstop Otto Lopez for what should have been an inning-ending double play, but Lopez’s throw pulled first baseman Connor Norby off the bag to allow Bauers to score.

The Brewers then put Jones in motion, hoping the Marlins would throw down to second so Rengifo could dart home from third. Instead, Agustin Ramírez tried to throw behind Rengifo, but hucked it over the head of Graham Pauley, who was playing more on the grass for a potential bunt than the catcher realized.

The only speedbump in Crow’s first big-league inning was a visit from athletic trainer Brad Epstein. Other than that? Nice and easy.

Sal Frelick’s diving catch on an Agustín Ramírez liner to right wrapped up a 1-2-3 first for Crow, whose career became with a play at first that required a visit from training staff. On Jakob Marsee’s grounder to first, Jake Bauers’ throw to Crow covering the bag was wide, requiring the right-hander to stretch and reach first base in one fell swoop.

Crow stayed in the game and retired the next two hitters by showcasing his deep mix, throwing sinkers, four-seams, cutters, sweepers and curveballs to the top of the Marlins order.
