ALTON, Ill. — It was a good day to play two for Quincy High School softball.

The Blue Devils won both ends of Saturday afternoon’s doubleheader against Alton, winning the first game 11-7 and the second game 2-1.

QHS had a 2-0 lead after two innings of play in the first game, and then erupted for 10 runs in the third to seize control of the game.

Blue Devils leadoff hitter and third baseman Ivy Winter went 3-for-5 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs.

Quincy catcher Maggie Neally went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, while shortstop Mia Ellefritz went 1-for-3 with a walk, run, RBI and a stolen base.

Blue Devils center fielder Avary Hlubek went 2-for-4 with a run, while second baseman Kendyl Byquist went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.

QHS starting pitcher Maylee Tipton was the winning pitcher in game one after pitching a complete game with one strikeout, while allowing 11 hits, four walks and three earned runs.

It was a low scoring game two, with Avary Hlubek coming through with a two-RBI double to score Ellefritz and Neally in the sixth inning.

Ellefritz went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base, while Hlbuek went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Tipton also won the second game after pitching all seven innings with no strikeouts, while allowing five hits, one walk and one earned run.

Up next for QHS (9-9) is a home game against Payson Seymour at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
