The Pittsburgh Pirates go for the season-series victory against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates host the Tampa Bay Rays for the rubber match in this series finale on Sunday afternoon. This is the only series of the season between these interleague foes. The Pirates looked like they were in firm control of the game on Saturday, scoring the first four runs through the fourth inning, highlighted by a couple of two-run homers by Marcell Ozuna and Ryan O’Hearn. But Tampa Bay went off for five runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead, highlighted by two RBI doubles from Junior Caminero and Jonny DeLuca. Pittsburgh tied up the game on an RBI single from Nick Yorke that ultimately sent the game into extras. Tampa Bay scored first in the 11th inning on a pickoff error by Pittsburgh reliever Yohan Ramierez. Pittsburgh came right back to tie it in the bottom of the inning on a fielder’s choice. Cedric Mullins led off the 13th inning with a two-run homer to bring home the automatic runner in the rainy, extended affair. Pittsburgh wasn’t done in the 13th, earning a run off an RBI single from Konnor Griffin, but the complete rally came up just short.
