In the seven-game homestand, the Bucs went 4-3, and are now 13-9.  Right now, that’s third place, but they are a game behind the Reds, who are in first and a half-game back of the Cardinals.  The Reds beat the Twins yesterday, 7-4, the Cardinals beat Houston 7-5, while the Cubs had a 2-1 win over the Mets and the Brewers fell to Miami, 5-3.

Before the game, the Pirates brought up Wilbur Dotel, who pitched the final inning and allowed a homer but also struck out one.

During Pirates Insider before the game, GM Ben Cherington said that the club is looking for long-relief answers, and said that it would be important to establish some permanence in that spot.

The Pirates have the day off to travel to Arlington to take on the Texas Rangers on Tuesday.

Down in the minors, the Altoona Curve’s two-game winning streak was snapped Sunday by the Portland Sea Dogs 5-3.  All of Altoona’s runs came off a Shawn Ross three-run homer in the 7th.

Altoona is off today, getting ready for a six-game series against Harrisburg that will start Tuesday.
