Landon Lassahn and Ben DeTienne combined to toss a two-hit shutout in the Verona baseball team’s 7-0 Big Eight win over Madison East on Thursday, April 16, at Warner Park.

Lassahn started on the mound and turned in a dominating performance, going five one-hit innings and striking out 11 to get the win. DeTienne tossed two innings in relief and struck out three.

Verona earned a sweep over Madison East with a 2-1 win on Monday, at Stampfl Field. With the wins, Verona improves to 3-2, 3-1 Big Eight.

Grady Miller went 3-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Wes Willenburg drove in two runs and Cason Genin scored two runs.

The Wildcats jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the second inning when Caden Martin knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly and Miller delivered an RBI single. Miller also had a triple in the Wildcats’ five-run fifth.

Verona 2 Madison East 1

Jaxon Wepking delivered a walk-off RBI single to propel the Wildcats to a conference win over the Purgolders on April 20, at Stampfl Field.

Wepking went 2-for-4 at the plate. Martin also knocked in a run.

Verona’s Griffin Kilcoyne pitched 5 ⅓ innings and gave up one earned run on one hit. He struck out six and didn’t issue a walk. JJ Ruifer tossed 1 ⅔ shutout innings in relief to earn the win.
