Staff report

PEMBROKE — Catawba scored 10 runs, had 13 hits and played errorless defense on Tuesday.

That formula will win 95 percent of the time, but the Indians didn’t have a good night on the mound and lost 15-10 at UNC Pembroke on Tuesday. UNCP was hard to keep in the ball park. Landon Lucas, Branton Jernigan and Hayden Davis swatted home runs. The Braves (29-16) took control of the game with a seven-run seventh.

The fifth-ranked Indians (35-9) lost despite another huge game by Brandon Crabtree, who hit two homers, doubled, singled and scored four times. Crabtree is batting .445 with 20 doubles, 10 homers and 49 RBIs.

Logan Dyer (East Rowan) scored three runs. Sam Hunter and Jake Dunlap knocked in two, and Ty Hubbard (South Rowan), who has been really hot of late, also drove in two.

Catawba will look to bounce back this weekend against Emory & Henry at Newman Park. First pitch on Friday night is at 5 p.m. Then there’s a Saturday afternoon doubleheader.
