West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh Game Preview
Expect Tuesday’s midweek game to be WVU rightie David Hagen (3-0, 2.08 ERA) against Pitt’s strong batting lineup. The Panthers are a midtable ACC team, but they rank second in the conference with a .318 team batting average.
That’s second only to Georgia Tech, widely seen as a top national championship contender this year.
West Virginia should be able to hit back against a poor crop of Pitt pitchers, but it probably won’t have 2B/catcher Gavin Kelly available. Kelly hurt his wrist against Houston over the weekend and should sit out Tuesday’s game.
West Virginia is a potential CWS team and thus a rightful favorite in this spot against rival Pitt. The over could be the best bet available, with both lineups capable of plating runs.
