Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Evan Phillips will undergo Tommy John surgery and is out for the remainder of the season, per manager Dave Roberts.

Phillips was moved to the 60-day injured list Thursday after playing catch a few days prior had gone awry. The right-hander was placed on the IL in early May with a seemingly minor injury.

However, Phillips began to feel soreness in his forearm, which resulted in him getting a PRP injection.

The star reliever had not allowed a run this season, throwing six strikeouts while allowing two walks over 5.2 innings. Roberts initially explained the Dodgers were simply being cautious with Phillips as the team understandably was trying to preserve him for October.

“It’s inflammation in his elbow so it’s just going to take some time,” Roberts said. “We’re going to take some time with Evan because as we said from the outset he’s so valuable going forward we have to be mindful and cautious with the buildup.”

Nevertheless, the situation has unfolded into a nightmare as Phillips will miss the rest of the 2025 campaign.

The right-hander was one of the best relievers for the Dodgers last season, finishing the year with a 3.62 ERA, 63 strikeouts, and 17 walks over 54.2 innings pitched.

The Dodgers’ bullpen usage has continued to be a cause for concern as L.A. relievers lead the league in innings with a total of 239.2 this season. The tragic Phillips news only makes matters worse for the Dodgers.

Injuries have continued to plague the Dodgers, and show no signs of slowing down.
