MANCHESTER, N.H. —
The Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora on Saturday, a move team president Sam Kennedy and chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said was made before the team’s 17-1 win.
Breslow said there was no power struggle between Cora, his coaching staff and his front office.
Kennedy said the decision to fire Cora was primarily Breslow’s.
“We hired Craig to be our chief baseball officer. He runs the baseball operation. We are a front-office-led baseball operation,” Kennedy said.
“Ultimately, this is the big leagues, and it is a results-oriented business, and we need to win more games, we need to perform better,” Breslow said.

Some veteran Red Sox players were not happy with the move, including Trevor Story.
Story said some of the best coaches in the game got let go and that he needs to have more conversations with the front office.
Chad Tracy, the manager at Triple-A Worcester, has taken over on an interim basis.
The Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 on Sunday in Tracy’s managerial debut.
Tracy said he has mixed emotions about taking over the team.
“I’m towing that line of sitting here with all of you in this moment, but also acknowledge the relationship with some of the people that are no longer here was strong,” he said. “So excited, but also honoring the people that were before me that were mentors to me.”
