IOWA 8, SYRACUSE 5 (BOX)
This one was back-and-forth early, but Iowa took the lead in the bottom of the fourth and kept it. Dom Hamel replaced Justin Hagenman and gave up a solo homer to the first batter he faced to make it a 4-3 ballgame and things progressively got worse, with the Cubs scoring two more runs before the inning ended. Anthony Gose allowed two more in the seventh, and while Syracuse didn’t lay down and die, they didn’t do enough.

BINGHAMTON 2, CHESAPEAKE 0 / 7 (BOX)
The game was called early because of rain, but Zach Thornton benefitted and logged a 6 IP CG as a result. The southpaw scattered a pair of hits and a pair of walks en route to his second win of the season with the Rumble Ponies, striking out 8. Jett Williams scored both of Binghamton’s runs, manufacturing both runs by scoring on wild pitches, one in the third and one in the sixth. With the win, that’s 7 in a row now for the Rumble Ponies.

BROOKLYN 3, ABERDEEN 0 / 5 (BOX)
Much like Binghamton’s contest, Brooklyn had their game end early and the Cyclones benefitted by throwing an official shutout. Unlike Binghamton, the Cyclones used more than one pitcher and had their game end early not because of rain, but because of fog. Nate Dohm and Chandler Marsh combined to throw the abbreviated shutout, Dohm throwing 3.2 innings and Marsh 1.1. Up 2-1, Jacob Reimer launched a home run to lead off the inning that literally could not be seen. Maybe it went foul? Maybe it never actually left the field? Maybe it cleared the park? Maybe it’s still up there, untouched by inertia or gravity and broke the laws of physics. Who knows? Probably for the best that the game was called when it was.

ST. LUCIE 16, PALM BEACH 1 (BOX)
For a 16-1 victory, this one wasn’t as exciting as you’d want it to be. Trace Willhoite had himself a game with two home runs and Daiverson Gutierrez and Willy Fanas both logged three hits apiece, but no one went off went off. I’ll definitely take a “boring” 16-run blowout win over most other wins and obviously all losses any day of the week though!
