ATLANTA – Detroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize has been placed on the injured list.
To replace Mize, the Tigers recalled left-handed reliever Enmanuel De Jesus from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, April 29, before the second of three games against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park.

The right groin injury to Mize occurred in the third inning of Tuesday’s 5-2 loss to the Braves, forcing him to exit with one out in the third inning after running to field a bunt.
LAST GAME: Tigers lose two players, then lose game vs Braves

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize (12) throws against the Atlanta Braves in the first inning at Truist Park in Atlanta on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
The Tigers previously optioned De Jesus on April 22 to Triple-A Toledo, opening a spot for right-handed reliever Burch Smith. Pitchers typically have to wait 15 days before returning to the big leagues – unless they’re replacing an injured player.
That’s what happened in this case.
De Jesus appeared in six games for the Tigers during his first stint, posting a 10.13 ERA with six walks and nine strikeouts across eight innings. The 29-year-old made the Opening Day roster out of spring training after signing a minor-league contract.

As for Mize, the Tigers have lost a key member of their starting rotation.
The 28-year-old has a 2.90 ERA with 11 walks and 35 strikeouts across 31 innings in six starts.
The Tigers have lost two of their five members of their Opening Day rotation with injuries to Mize and right-hander Justin Verlander, leaving left-handers Tarik Skubal and Framber Valdez and right-hander Jack Flaherty as the mainstays.
It’s unclear how the Tigers will fill Mize’s spot in the rotation.
Verlander completed a bullpen session before Wednesday’s game, but he is expected to need at least one start on a rehab assignment before returning to the Tigers.
