MLB SVP/Global Operations & Events Jim Small wrote in an email that Friday is his “last day at MLB,” noting next up for him is to start a “small sports advisory business focused on mostly on Japan.” Small said he made the decision to retire “a few years back to ‘graduate’” after the 2026 World Baseball Classic, and “that time has come.” He added he is “so grateful to have spent more than 40 years in a game I love so much.” Small noted his firm will aim to help Japanese companies “figure out their international strategies.” He added there will also be “a few teaching opportunities I’m looking at” (SBJ).
