NEW YORK — The Orioles will be without their closing pitching for this series against the Yankees. Right-hander Ryan Helsley was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
The Orioles selected the contract of right-hander Albert Suárez, who had his new minor league deal approved by MLB only a few hours ago.
Helsley’s injury designation is retroactive to Wednesday. He pitched a clean ninth inning Tuesday in a win against the Houston Astros.
Since joining this offseason, Helsley has been a lockdown force at the back end of the bullpen. He’s 7-for-7 in save attempts.
