Australia’s Travis Bazzana registered his first hit in the MLB as his Cleveland Guardians defeated The Athletics 14-6 at Raley Field in West Sacramento, California.
Bazzana, who was the No.1 pick in the 2024 MLB draft, made his debut for the Guardians earlier this week and followed it up by ticking off another milestone on Sunday morning Australian time.

The 23-year-old left-hander from Sydney hit a two-run single with bases loaded in the seventh innings to give the Guardians a 9-5 lead and to open his account in the big league.
“It felt great,” he said. “Nothing but good feelings. Once it squeaked through, it was nice to get a couple of RBI and get the first one out of the way.”
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said: “It came in a huge spot for us to extend the lead.”
When his first Major League hit made it past the Athletics’ diving shortstop Jacob Wilson, Bazzana’s family in the crowd went ballistic.
So too did his teammates in the dugout.
Bazzana turned to his teammates pumped his fist in celebration and they responded with plenty of cheers.
“It means everything,” Bazzana replied when asked about his teammates’ reaction.

“If you’re going to play this game a long time, you want to have teams that you have good relationships with. They pick you up and you pick them up.
“To turn to the dugout and see them over the railing is a great feeling.”
The rookie second baseman ended his fourth MLB game with two RBIs (runs batted in), scoring a run himself as well as recording his first stolen base straight after his maiden hit.

That performance came after Bazzana went 0-for-9 in his first three games with four walks, three strike outs and two runs.
Vogt complimented the quality of the Australians at bats pre-game despite him being hitless.
That confidence from his manager seemed to settle Bazzana, but it was natural to start to feel like he needed to tick off the milestone.
“Honestly, the first three games I didn’t really feel any extra pressure,” said Bazzana after the Guardians’ 14-6 win over the A’s on Saturday.
“I was having really good at-bats.”
He added: “After the first at-bat (against the Athletics), you start to notice that it’s getting a little long.”
Bazzana stepped up the MLB after a promising season for the Guardians’ minor league affiliate Colombus.
He also starred for Australia at the recent World Baseball Classic, including scoring a solo home run against world No.2 Chinese Taipei.
Bazzana has the chance to play a big role for the remainder of the season as the Guardians sit on top of the American League’s Central Division.
He is currently ranked 16th on the MLB Top 100 prospects list and is the Guardians’ No. 1-ranked prospect.
