Boenning accumulated a three-round score of 5-below par 208, closing out with an even-par 71 in Saturday’s Round 3. His score left him knotted up with two Pepperdine players and 10 strokes behind medalist Ian Maspat of San Diego.
Washington State’s Sam Renner tied for 23rd at 2 over for the weekend, Garrett Harrison tied for 30th at 3 over and Ben Borgida rounded out the Cougs’ scoring at a tied-for-46th 7 over.
As a team, the Cougars ended the 54-hole event at 7-over 859, trailing first-place San Diego by 29 strokes.

Cougs win 3V8
LOWELL, Ore. — Washington State’s 3V8 team of Olivia Sloma, Poppy Montgomery, Brianna Brownlee, Taye Brodzinski, Colette Coleman, Pasha McPherson, Grace Law, Kate Schroeder and coxswain Keira Johnson claimed a first-place finish to highlight the Cougars’ day at the Winchell Cup against Oregon State.
The team clocked in at 7 minutes, 12.30 seconds, beating out the Beavers’ crew by nine seconds. Oregon State won the day’s other events.
“Thanks to Oregon State for hosting us,” WSU coach Jane LaRiviere said. “The weather cooperated and the team took a couple of steps in the right direction. The 2V8 had a very gutsy race, and I was proud of them. Kudos to the 3V8 for their win; it was a come-from-behind victory, and the dev squad really stepped up today.”
The Cougs will return to action for the West Coast Conference Championships on May 15-16 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.

Vandals’ Sturgis posts javelin win
CORVALLIS, Ore. — Idaho senior Blake Sturgis won the men’s javelin with a throw of 220 feet even at the Oregon State High Performance Meet held Friday and Saturday at Whyte Track and Field Center.
Teammate Wyatt Pickering ran a personal best time of 1 minute, 53.12 seconds to take third in the men’s 800, and Mason Andulajevic placed third in the hammer throw with a distance of 195-5 for the Vandals. On the women’s side, UI’s Adisyn Andrews was fourth in the javelin at 140-6.
Meanwhile, another delegation of Vandals competed at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz., where Hanna Tait recorded their best individual result with a seventh-place finish in the women’s long jump, notching a season-best mark of 19-11 1/2.
