SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KTXL) – The San Francisco Giants are turning to youth in hopes of jumpstarting a struggling offense.
According to reports, San Francisco is calling up top prospect Bryce Eldridge along with catcher Jesus Rodriguez as the team returns home following a difficult road trip.

The Giants went winless on their six game trip, falling to 13-21 on the season and dropping into a tie for the third worst record in Major League Baseball. The offensive struggles have been especially noticeable. San Francisco has scored just 106 runs this season, the fewest in the majors, and has also hit a league low 19 home runs.
The lack of production was on full display in Tampa Bay, where the Giants scored just two runs over a three game series against the Rays.
“It was painful,” manager Tony Vitello said following the road trip, noting the team came up short for a variety of reasons. “You end the day searching for positives.”
Now, the organization is hoping its young talent can provide a much needed boost.

Eldridge, 21, is one of the top prospects in the Giants system and is known for his power at the plate. The 6 foot 7 left handed hitter has posted a .963 OPS with five home runs in 30 games at Triple A this season. This will mark his second stint in the majors after appearing in 10 games with San Francisco last year.
Rodriguez, 24, adds versatility to the roster. A rare combination player, he is capable of playing both catcher and third base. Rodriguez was acquired from the New York Yankees at last season’s trade deadline and has impressed at Triple A Sacramento, posting an .840 OPS in 24 games.
The Giants will look to turn things around at home, opening a three game series against the San Diego Padres before hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates later in the week.
For a team searching for answers at the plate, the hope is simple. These young bats can help provide a spark and shift momentum as the season moves forward.
