Los Angeles Angels starter Jose Soriano’s hot start to the season earned him his first American League Pitcher of the Month award.

The right-hander has been a bright spot for the Angels in the young 2026 season, posting a 0.84 ERA with 49 strikeouts through seven starts. He became just the third pitcher in MLB history to finish April with five or more wins, 49 or more strikeouts and an ERA below 1.00 alongside Randy Johnson with the 2000 Arizona Diamondbacks and Jered Weaver with the 2011 Angels.

Congratulations to José Soriano on being named the A.L. Pitcher of the Month! ⚾️

Soriano had never won the Pitcher of the Month award prior to earning the achievement for April, and also won his first AL Player of the Week honor last month.

The right-hander currently leads all qualified starters in ERA, and is tied for the third most strikeouts in the American League behind Dylan Cease and Gavin Williams. He also leads MLB in bWAR, posting a mark of 2.6—a career high less than two months into the season.

The ace made 31 appearances for the Angels last year, posting a 4.26 ERA but showing plenty of flashes of brilliance throughout the year. Now, he’s taken over the rotation and is looking to lead the Angels for plenty of years to come.

Soriano’s next start for the Halos comes against the Chicago White Sox in the first game of the series, which will come at Angel Stadium Monday at 6:38 p.m. PT.
