Chicago White Sox sign veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk to a one-year deal and place Austin Hays on the IL with a left calf strain.

The Chicago White Sox made a veteran addition to their outfield on Thursday, signing free agent Randal Grichuk to a one-year, $1.25 million contract.

In a corresponding move, the team placed outfielder Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain. Tanner Murray has also been transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Grichuk, 34, gives the White Sox a veteran right-handed bat and solid defensive outfielding versatility. He spent the early part of 2026 with the New York Yankees before being released.

The signing comes as Hays, who had been contributing early in the season but has now missed significant time with injuries (hamstring earlier, now calf). Grichuk should provide immediate depth and a veteran presence in a young outfield group that has been searching for consistency.
