TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa city council is holding a public workshop Tuesday afternoon to discuss the Tampa Bay Rays stadium plans.
City officials and representatives from the Rays will be at the meeting.
The public is invited to hear more stadium plan details, share opinions and ask questions.
No official vote is happening by city officials at the meeting.
The proposed Rays stadium district at the Hillsborough College Dale Mabry campus covers about 113-acres and includes apartments, offices, retail, dining and entertainment.
The estimated cost of the project is $2.3 billion.
The Rays’ proposal released earlier this month calls for the Rays to fund 50% of project, including any cost overruns. The city of Tampa would contribute $251 million, while Hillsborough County would contribute $750 million.
The team wants the city and Hillsborough County to approve funding for the project by June 1 in order to meet a deadline of opening a new ballpark in time for the 2029 season.
Tuesday’s meeting at City Hall (315 east Kennedy Blvd.) starts at 5 p.m.
