Kolek returns from injured list to make spot start

  • May 5, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City Royals right-hander Stephen Kolek returns from the injured list Tuesday night to make a spot start for the Royals.

The Royals announced that Kolek would start in Noah Cameron’s place late Monday night, saying Cameron was dealing with lower back tightness that would cause him to miss his would-be seventh start of the season.

Kolek, a 29-year-old who started the season on the injured list with a left oblique strain, was activated Tuesday.

In a corresponding move, reliever Mason Black was optioned to Triple-A Omaha.

Black pitched 4.2 innings and had 5 strikeouts and 0 earned runs for the Royals so far this season.

The Royals will go for their fifth straight win Tuesday night at 6:40 p.m. CT against the Cleveland Guardians.
