Illini West hosted Havana in a Prairieland Conference baseball game at Jake Burling Field on Friday, May 1, and earned a 10-2 victory.

Aiden Pratt bunted out to the third baseman to open the game. Jack Turner lined out to the shortstop for the second out. Carter Brooks popped out to right field to close the half inning.

Eli Bisby struck out swinging to lead off the home first inning. Wesley Robertson walked and stole second base. Cash Jones singled to right field and Robertson scored for a 1-0 Chargers lead. Grady Blue struck out swinging for the second out. Aiden Hocker grounded into a fielder’s choice and Jones was out trying to get to second base to end the inning.

Bradyn Willing grounded to third base for the first out in the second inning. Oscar Jones grounded to shortstop for the second out. Caleb McDaniel flew to left to end the half inning.

Austin Cramer grounded out to first to lead off the home second. Ethan Carlisle singled to left field and stole second base. Gavin Skein popped out to the pitcher for the second out. Holton Darbyshire struck out looking to end the second inning.

Havana’s Lukas Miller popped up in foul territory to the pitcher for the first out. Jayden Weaver and Owen Smith both struck out swinging to end the top of the third inning.

Bisby led off the home third with a single to right field. Bisby was out in a run down trying to steal second. Robertson walked and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Jones was out at first on a dropped third strike for the second out. Blue singled to right field scoring Robertson for a 2-0 score. Hocker lined out to center to end the inning.

Robertson set the Ducks down in order in the top of the fourth inning.

Cramer flew out to right field to start the home fourth. Carlisle bunted to the pitcher for the second out. Skein doubled to left field. Darbyshire lined out to shortstop to end the inning.

Willing grounded out to third base to begin the top of the fifth inning. Jones singled to center field. Courtesy runner Cayden Green entered for Jones. Green stole second base. McDaniel singled to third base. Green held up at second base. Miller struck out swinging for the second out. Green went to third base on an error by the catcher. Weaver doubled to left field to score Green and McDaniel to tie the game at 2-2. Smith singled to shortstop on a ground ball moving Weaver to third base. Pratt walked. Turner grounded out to the pitcher to end the half inning.

Bisby led off the home fifth with a single to right field. He went to second on a passed ball. Robertson reached on a dropped third strike and Bisby scored for a 3-2 lead. Jones doubled to center field to plate Robertson for a 4-2 Chargers lead. Cordell Vehmeier courtesy ran for Jones. Blue struck out looking for the first out. Hocker hit a ground ball and reached on an error by the third baseman. Vehmeier held at second base. Cramer struck out swinging for the second out. Carlisle singled to center field and Vehmeier scored for a 5-2 Chargers lead. Skein lined out to the shortstop to end the inning.

In the top of the sixth, the Ducks managed just a Jones walk with two outs. McDaniel struck out swinging to close the half inning.

Darbyshire singled to left field to open the home sixth. Liam Murphy courtesy ran for Darbyshire. Bisby doubled to left field and Murphy scored for a 6-2 tally. Bisby took third on a wild pitch. Robertson walked. Jones grounded into a fielder’s choice and Bisby was out trying to score. Robertson went to third base. Blue drew a walk. Hocker struck out looking for the second out. Cramer doubled to right field scoring Robertson and Jones. Blue crossed the plate on the throw back in for a 9-2 Chargers advantage. Cramer scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-2. Carlisle was hit by a pitch. Skein struck out swinging to end the inning.

Robertson struck out Miller to open the seventh inning. Weaver popped to the first baseman for the second out. Robertson closed out the game with a swinging strike out of Smith.

Robertson pitched a complete game win. He gave up four hits and two earned runs, struck out seven and walked two. Brooks was the losing pitcher. He went 5 innings allowing eight hits and five runs (three earned), struck out seven and walked two. The Chargers improved to 17-4 on the season while the Ducks dropped to 13-5-1.
