The Port Allegany Gators picked up their 11th win of the season when they traveled to Northern Potter on Monday, May 4.

The Gators took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a pair of singles from Kellen Veilleux and Aiden Bliss. Port Allegany increased their lead to five in the third inning.

Northern Potter took advantage of poor pitching from the visitors in the bottom half of the inning and pulled to within one run with a four-run inning.

The Gators created a little breathing room in the top of the fourth when Nick Wilson scored on a passed ball.

Northern Potter pulled to within one run again on Port Allegany balk. Then, Kaydn Shope knotted the game at 6-6 with a grounder to second base that brought Colt Houghtaling home.

The Gators took control in the sixth inning and scored seven runs on six hits including doubles from Veilleux and Garrin Wright. With a 13-6 advantage, Chase Boyd retired the side. The Gators tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh and Boyd shut down the side in the final frame to secure a 16-6 victory.

Bliss was 3-4 at the plate with an RBI and four runs scored. Brennan Fillhart was 3-5 with two RBIs. Boyd and Gavin Moses both finished 2-5 with an RBI. Veilleux was 2-4 with a walk.

The Panther’s Houghtaling was 2-3 with two runs scored. Rees Elmadollar was 1-3 with an RBI and a walk. Shope led Northern Potter with two RBIs.

The next night, Port Allegany suffered their first loss of the season to Elk County Catholic. Elk County jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first. Port Allegany slowly chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the score in the top of the fifth when Boyd doubled to left field and Bliss scored.

Elk County retaliated with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning and a third in the sixth.

Elk County shut down the Gators at the plate and finished the night with an 8-5 victory ending Port Allegany’s unbeaten streak.

The Gators were scheduled to travel to Coudersport on Wednesday barring a rain out.
