It is no secret that the injury bug is biting the Toronto Blue Jays badly this season. Several of their key players have been or currently are sidelined, and veteran pitcher Max Scherzer is among them. Scherzer has not pitched for the Blue Jays since their Apr. 24 contest against the Cleveland Guardians due to forearm discomfort. The three-time Cy Young Award winner was placed on the 15-day injured list because of it.
With Scherzer being an important part of the Blue Jays’ roster, they are hoping that he is ready to return to the mound soon. However, the 19-year veteran recently expressed frustration while providing an update on his current condition. While speaking with Hazel Mae, Scherzer shared that he is still experiencing forearm discomfort despite his MRI coming back clean.
“It’s confusing as heck because I have a clean MRI. That’s what has everyone pulling their hair out. The MRI is saying, ‘hey you should be good,’ and I’m like no.. the check engine light is on,” Scherzer said.
Caught up with Max Scherzer yesterday and here’s what he said about his forearm:

This is undoubtedly a concerning update from Scherzer, and it is easy to understand why he is frustrated by it. This is also tough news for the banged-up Blue Jays, as it is making it hard to determine when the veteran pitcher will be able to return to the mound for them.
With Scherzer still dealing with forearm discomfort, it would not be surprising if he is forced to miss more time from here. The Blue Jays can’t afford to rush the eight-time All-Star back, as that could create more problems for him.
Blue Jays’ Scherzer will be looking to bounce back once he returns to action
While there are still questions about when Scherzer will return for the Blue Jays, it is clear that the veteran righty will be aiming to bounce back once he is good to go. He has had a tough start to the 2026 season, as he has a 1-3 record to go along with a 9.64 ERA. The future Hall of Famer was able to add to his credentials in a Blue Jays uniform last season. After an IL stint at the beginning of the year, Scherzer returned at the end of the year and in a 10 game stretch, he pitched to a 3.47 ERA with 55 strikeouts in 57 innings pitched. He then had three impressive playoff outings as the Blue Jays reached the World Series.
When looking at Scherzer’s excellent resume, it is hard to bet against him heating back up when he is given the green light to return. The Blue Jays will certainly be hoping he does, and this is especially so when noting that they need to climb up the standings. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see when Scherzer is able to return for the Blue Jays. Hopefully the discomfort in his forearm subsides sooner rather than later.
