ST. PAUL — Second-seeded Macalester edged No. 3 St. John’s 5-4 in a MIAC Tournament game on Thursday, May 7, at CHS Field.
(25-15) face top-seeded Bethel (29-9) in an elimination game at noon Friday, May 8, in St. Paul. The Royals, the top seed, fell to fourth-seeded Saint Mary’s 8-6 in 11 innings earlier Thursday.
The game was tied at 4 after the first three innings.
The Scots (27-14) scored the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Following a strikeout and flyout, Macalester coaxed a hit-by-pitch and walk off SJU freshman pitcher Max Edwards before Tristan Lander lifted a bloop single to right field for the go-ahead run.

Edwards (6-2) took the loss, his second of the year to the Scots. He allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits in seven innings. He struck out five and walked five.
Jack Nussbaum picked up the win after he pitched the final 7-2/3 innings in relief for the Scots. He gave up one run on six hits, struck out nine and walked five.
St. John’s Reed Marquardt went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Alex Matchey went 2-for-4, Will Wareham doubled and drove in two runs, Owen Amrhein went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Justin Brooks doubled.
