CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WOWT) – Nebraska baseball kept its season alive Saturday with a 4–1 win over Holy Cross in a NCAA Chapel Hill Regional elimination game.
Ty Horn delivered a standout performance, tossing seven innings while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out six. The right-hander retired the first 10 batters he faced and earned the win to improve to 5–1 on the year.
Holy Cross struck first with a solo home run by Nate Reynolds in the top of the fifth, but Nebraska responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Cayden Brumbaugh gave the Huskers a 2–1 lead with a two-run homer to right — his second long ball of the season.
Creighton transfer Hogan Helligso added insurance with a solo home run in the seventh inning and a RBI single in the eighth to score Rhett Stokes, extending the lead to 4–1. Helligso finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk.
The Huskers’ bullpen closed the door with two scoreless innings, including a four-out save from Brett Sears, who struck out two and didn’t allow a baserunner.
The win advances Nebraska (33–28) to another elimination game on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT, where the Huskers will face the loser of Saturday night’s matchup between Oklahoma and regional No. 1 seed North Carolina. Nebraska would need three more wins to capture the regional and advance in the NCAA Tournament.
For the third time in five years, Nebraska will play in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
