Baltimore Orioles outfielder Heston Kjerstad is scheduled to begin a Major League Baseball rehab assignment with the Double-A Chesapeake Baysox, giving local fans another chance to see Orioles talent up close at Prince George’s Stadium.

Kjerstad is expected to join Chesapeake on Saturday as the Baysox close out their series against the Altoona Curve.

Kjerstad Returning From Hamstring Injury

Kjerstad’s rehab assignment follows a right hamstring injury suffered in March. Before the injury, he had two doubles and two home runs in 13 Grapefruit League games this spring.

The Orioles selected Kjerstad with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft out of Arkansas. He made his Double-A debut with the Baysox on April 6, 2023, on Opening Night in Hartford, where his first Double-A hit was a home run to center field.

Kjerstad went on to hit .310 with 24 extra-base hits, including 11 home runs, in 46 games with the Baysox before being promoted to Triple-A Norfolk on June 5, 2023. Later that season, he became the 216th former Baysox player to reach the major leagues, making his MLB debut on September 15.

Second Rehab Stop With The Baysox

Kjerstad also appeared with the Baysox on a rehab assignment in 2024, playing four games during the team’s final series of the season in Erie. He went 4-for-13 with a double and three RBIs.

His arrival comes as Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday is also on an MLB rehab assignment with Chesapeake. Holliday began his assignment Thursday and has appeared in two games this week against Altoona.

With both Kjerstad and Holliday in Bowie, the Baysox series offers fans a closer look at two of the Orioles’ high-profile players as the organization continues to showcase one of baseball’s strongest talent pipelines.
