CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Gas prices nearing sitting at $4.79 per gallon in Cleveland did not keep fans home Saturday as three major events drew crowds downtown.
The Cavaliers, Guardians and country star Zach Bryan all hosted events at the same time, filling sidewalks and roads with fans who drove in despite high fuel costs.
“I put in half a tank,” one fan said. “Because I am poor and that’s all I could afford.”
Gas prices have neared $5 per gallon since the Strait of Hormuz closed, choking oil deliveries globally.
Fans use discounts to offset costs
Zach Bryan performed at Huntington Bank Field on Saturday. Fans said they maximized their gas rewards before heading downtown.
“Yes, I used my discounts as much as possible before I got here,” one concertgoer said.
New restaurant sees first busy Cleveland weekend
Aireal’s Place at 815 Superior Avenue, recently opened in the corridor connecting all three events experienced its first taste of a busy Cleveland weekend.
Mia Beavers, owner of Aireal’s, cleaned up her restaurant after the rush.
“We went through everything. I cannot believe it,” Beavers said.
Beavers opened Ariel’s last August, her first summer running a restaurant in Cleveland.
“We just got hit. So, I think I did underestimate what the summers are going to be like here,” she said.
One fan said the high gas prices were worth it for the concert.
“I mean it’s worth it for the concert, I probably wouldn’t have done it otherwise. It was like $30 for half a tank,” the fan said.
