LCSC’S Kelly Honored
LA GRANDE, Ore. — Lewiston High alum Madigan Kelly was named Track Athlete of the Meet as she finished competing for Lewis-Clark State in the Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Eastern Oregon University.
Kelly followed up her dominant Friday win in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a fourth-place finish in the 400 hurdles on Saturday, running a time of 1 minute, 3.39 seconds.
Fellow Lewiston product Kobe Wessels clocked a time of 1:52.94 to win the men’s 800 for LC State. Also titling for the Warrior men was Perry Severijnse, whose javelin throw of 206 feet, 10 3/4 inches met the NAIA’s national standard qualifying mark.
The 1,600 relay team of Harry Lazenby, Preston Cooper, Jordan Castillo and Trenton Johnson broke the Warriors’ school record by nearly two seconds with a time of 3:13.82, Alexander Lambson set a new school record in the discus with a distance of 39 feet, 4 inches.
“Generally speaking, it was a pretty good second day,” LCSC coach Mike Collins said. “From a team standpoint, our goal was to finish in the top half. The men came really close to finishing in the top three.”
LC State will return to competition for Nationals in Asheville, N.C., on May 20-22.
