The Kansas City Royals got a 5-1 win on Saturday, over the Detroit Tigers. The game’s top highlight was an astonishing inside-the-park home run from Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. Witt galloped around the bases at blazing speed, before diving into home plate.
The numbers are giving more insight into the hustle that Witt showed on that amazing play. Kansas City’s star infielder scored after hitting a ground ball.
“Witt was truly flying, with a 30.4 feet/second sprint speed, considered elite. He went from home to third in 10.91 seconds before the final 90-foot sprint,” MLB.com reported.
The Royals star loved every minute of it.
“Those are the fun ones,” Witt said. “You’re just out there being a kid and trying to run and see what happens.”
Statistics also show that Witt’s inside-the-park home run was one of the fastest in history.
“Witt went from home to home in 14.13 seconds, the fourth-fastest home-to-home time in the Statcast era (since 2015),” the outlet added.
The only two players to run faster were Byron Buxton, who went faster twice, and Pete Crow-Armstrong.
“I want to be No. 1,” Witt said jokingly.
Kansas City fans haven’t had a whole lot to celebrate this season, but that moment was certainly one of them. The Royals are now 19-21 on the campaign after the victory Saturday.
Witt now has five home runs on the year. He is hitting at a .297 batting average for the Royals. Witt has also driven in 19 runs for Kansas City, who is currently second in the American League Central.
The Royals play the Tigers again on Sunday. Kansas City now has seven wins in their last 10 contests.
