Over the weekend, the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) Colts defeated the Tohatchi Cougars in a best-of three series. This was the first round of the Class 3A state baseball playoffs, with the Colts being the eighth seed and the Cougars being the ninth seed. NMMI dominated game one on Friday, winning 8-1. Game two on Saturday was closer, but Tohatchi still couldn’t overcome NMMI, with the Colts winning again, 6-3, and ending the series. NMMI now moves on to the second round, where they will face No. 1 East Mountain on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Albuquerque at the Jennifer Riordan Spark Kindness Sports Complex on Field 3. Left, Colts player Juan-Carlos Hurtado (16) rounds third base and heads toward home.
