Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday as he recovers from a Grade 2 right hamstring strain.
The Chicago White Sox received a significant positive injury update on Tuesday as top catching prospect Kyle Teel is set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte.
Teel, who has been sidelined since early March with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain suffered during the World Baseball Classic, will report to the Knights and is expected to catch in his first rehab game on Tuesday night against Norfolk.
The 24-year-old was originally projected for a 4-to-6 week recovery, but setbacks have pushed his timeline back just a bit. He progressed to running the bases successfully this past weekend, which was the final major hurdle before being cleared for game action.
White Sox GM Chris Getz and manager Will Venable have both expressed optimism about Teel’s recovery in recent weeks. Once he completes the rehab assignment, which will likely last at least a handful of games, he is expected to rejoin the major-league roster and resume his role as the team’s primary catcher.
Teel was one of the most anticipated young players heading into the 2026 season and was slated to be Chicago’s everyday backstop before the injury. His impending return will provide a major boost to the White Sox lineup, which has already been hot in recent weeks.
