During the fifth inning, Guardians hitter Angel Martinez launched a deep fly ball toward the right-field wall that appeared destined to leave the yard. Statcast projected the drive at 357 feet off the bat at 98.9 mph with a 36-degree launch angle. Instead, Adell raced back to the warning track, timed his leap perfectly, and reached over the fence to take away a potential two-run homer.

The Angels entered the inning trailing just 1-0, making the catch even more important as Los Angeles attempted to stay within striking distance on the road.

Major League Baseball shared the catch on X, formerly Twitter, alongside multiple replay angles that quickly spread across social media.

“Jo Adell is back to robbing home runs! 😱”

The robbery marked the 27-year-old’s fifth home run theft of the 2026 season through roughly the first six weeks of the year. Earlier this season, he also made headlines after taking away three home runs from the Seattle Mariners in the same game.

Adell’s defensive growth has become one of the most impressive developments for the Angels this year. Once viewed primarily as an athletic prospect with offensive upside, he has evolved into one of baseball’s most dynamic all-around outfielders.

His impact has extended beyond defense as well. Entering Tuesday, Adell carried a .279 batting average with six home runs and 24 RBIs, continuing to provide steady production in the middle of the Angels’ lineup.

Former franchise icon Torii Hunter has also praised Adell’s defensive development, and that influence continues to show as the outfielder establishes himself as one of baseball’s most entertaining defenders.
